As a Reiki practitioner, I am often asked the question, “What is Reiki?” I almost always hesitate before answering, not because I am the least bit unsure about what it is I practice, but it’s because I am gauging the open-heartedness of the asker. Sometimes I am met with pure acceptance. Often, my description evokes curious nods and kindles a desire for more information. Other times, skeptical smiles are offered. Once in a while, I receive a negative response. Every reaction is lovingly received.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an energy healing modality that uses chi—also called universal energy, life energy, life-force, etc.—that passes through the practitioner’s hands to restore health and a sense of well-being. A Japanese word, Reiki has been translated to mean “universal life-force energy” and “spirit-guided energy” and “soul-guided energy”; however you choose to think of it, Reiki is a powerful, loving, and gentle healing method.
Turning Reiki into a life practice has been one of the best life choices I have made. I am honored to have been trained in Level I & II by Reiki Master Amy Z. Rowland. The Five Principles of Reiki are:
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Just for today, do an honest day’s work.
Just for today, be grateful for all of life’s blessings.
Just for today, be kind to every living thing.
In the coming days and weeks, I will add more information here on the various aspects and benefits of this wonderful practice. I hope you’ll bookmark this page and visit again soon!
