Aromatherapy ~ DIY Scent Diffuser

Posted by admin in Mar 13, 2012, under Alternative Health and Beauty

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing method that uses volatile plant material, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering the mind, health, and mood.

Making your own aromatherapy diffuser is simple and inexpensive. This DIY diffuser is also a great replacement for those expensive store-bought reed diffusers used to scent the home. What you’ll need:

1 glass or ceramic container
1 teaspoon water gems (found in the floral department of any craft store)
2 tablespoons essential oil or concentrated fragrance oil
water

Place water gems into container. Pour in the fragrance oil and add ½ cup of water. Don’t worry if liquid becomes milky looking, it will clear up once it is absorbed by the water gems. After 4-6 hrs, the water gems will be fully expanded and all of the water/oil will be absorbed. If water gems begin to shrink, simply add more water to rejuvenate. If the scent is too strong, add less oil. Also, try mixing 2 or more oils together. Water gems come in a variety of colors. Diffuser scent should last up to 10 months.

Be careful! Fragrance and essential oils could damage some furniture surfaces!
